A Day at Rising Fives


A typical day at Rising Fives


Morning sessions


9:15 am

Children arrive – Children enter through the side door with their grown-ups.

They hang their coats and bags on their pegs, put their water bottle in the tray and find their name card to put up on the board. The adults help their child to settle, then say goodbye.


9:30 to 9.45

Group time - Children participate in a small group activity, usually with their key person. The activity will be planned to meet the needs of the children in the group, with every child's needs being targeted at least once a week. This helps to reinforce the key-person relationship, helps the child get to know a small group of children much better and helps them learn to take turns, listen to others and co-operate within a group.


9.45am - 11.30am

Free-flow. The children are free to move around the setting, selecting activities and interacting with others as they choose. The outside area is open and children can go in and out freely. Staff are available to support children and enhance learning in all areas of the space.


09:45 am - 10:45 am

Snack Bar is open. Children can choose to have a snack as part of the free-flow session. They wash their hands, select their own food and drink, sit with their friends whilst they eat and then clear away their cup and plate.


11:30am

Tidy Up Time – the children tidy up and put toys away with support from the staff.


11:35 am

Phonics time - Children work on early phonics skills in small groups. Initially the focus will be on listening and attention, making and recognising sounds. As children become more skilled, they will move on to language sounds, rhyme, rhythm and alliteration and then to "pure" phonetic sounds.


11:50 am

Singing, dancing, music and story time.


12:15 am

Home time - children not staying for lunch go home.


12:10 am - 12:45 am

Lunch club.

Free-flow with snack available.
