Snack takes place as a free-flow activity in every session, meaning that children can choose when they want snack, within limits. We provide a choice of items - typical examples are toast, pitta bread, breadsticks, slices of apple or banana, orange segments, cucumber slices etc. The children are encouraged to be as independent as possible buttering their own toast, pouring their own drink, and washing up their plate and cup when they have finished. We are very grateful for donations of items for our snack bar.
If your child is staying for lunch club or is here all day then you will need to provide them with a packed lunch, including a drink. We do not have the facilities to refrigerate the children's lunches so please keep chilled using ice blocks etc. The children will sit down and eat their lunch together from 12.15pm - 12.45pm, along with the staff. We encourage healthy eating. In addition, we ask parents/carers not to include products that contain nuts.
Please advise us as soon as possible if your child has ANY allergy, no matter what they are. In addition to making sure they don't eat something they shouldn't at snack time, we occasionally have pets come into visit us and we use a variety of items as part of our messy play such as slime, play dough, gellibaf etc. If your child is staying for lunch club or is here all day then you will need to provide them with a packed lunch, including a drink. Your child will have a member of staff who is their key person while they are at Rising Fives. However, the children are welcome to go to any of the staff team. As a team, we work closely together and have solid attachments with all the children, and we ensure your child is able to seek comfort and support from any member of the team as they choose.
Rising Fives uses an online learning journey called Tapestry to record your child's time with us, which you will be sent the log in details to access. You can also add your own photos or observations, so we can see what your child does at home.
We have our Welcome notice board by our front door to outline all the fun activities that the children have been up to during the session as well as what has been on offer at snack time. In our weekly newsletter we keep you up to date of our topics, activities that the children will be having fun doing as well as our rhyme for the week. There are also the dates of upcoming events and other useful information. We also have our Face book page where we put weekly updates of our fun activities as well as reminders and details of events.
We are always very grateful to parents who come and "stay and play" for a session with their child - the children all love having someone new to talk and play with. We are also grateful for help when we have our Little Explorers trips into the local area.
As we are a committee run Preschool, we are always happy to welcome new Committee Members. You don't need a lot of spare time or special skills, just enthusiasm and a desire to be involved with Rising Fives.
We believe that most complaints are made constructively and can be sorted out an early stage. We also believe that it is in the best interests of the pre-school and parents that complaints should be taken seriously and dealt with fairly and in a way that respects confidentiality.
If you have any concerns please speak to Michaela Pyle, Manager or Lyn Meyrick, Deputy Manager about your worries.
We have a Complaints procedure which is readily available if you would like a copy - please just ask and we can provide you with a paper copy or send it to you by email.
